| How long should I burn a candle?
When burning the candle for the first time, the candle should burn long enough for the wax to be fully melted across the width of the candle. A full melt pool the first burn will ensure an even burn in subsequent burns and avoid the wax "tunneling". Candles should never be burned for more than four hours at a time.
Why is my candle smoking?
A candle that smokes indicates (1) The wick is too long and needs a trim, or (2) the candle is burning in a draft. Please keep all wicks trimmed to ¼”. If a “mushroom”, or as we affectionately call them, wick boogies, do form, please trim off and remove from wax prior to consequent burns. Candles should be burned away from drafts (air conditioning vents, open windows, etc.) at all times. NEVER leave a burning candle unattended.
Trim those wicks!
Trimming your wicks to approximately 1/4" is mandatory! This will help ensure the longevity of your candle. A well trimmed wick will not smoke, and will burn longer and cleaner. PLEASE....trim those wicks! We have a fabulous wick cutter (available by clicking the "Accessories" button). It does an amazing job, and we highly recommend them!
Size does matter!
When burning a candle, please consider the size of the candle and the room in which it's placed. A small 5 oz candle will scent a smaller room (like a bathroom or bedroom) much more efficiently, than it would a large room (like the living room). Likewise, a large 12 oz candle might blow you right out of a bathroom :)
